The 5TH BRESL Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting

April 10-11, 2013, Langkawi, Malaysia


The 5th BRESL Regional Project Steering Committee (RPSC) Meeting was held on April 10-11, 2013, in Holiday Villa, Langkawi, Malaysia among the Key Partners of the Project composed of the six (6) Participating Countries (PCs), viz., Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Thailand; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the Implementing Agency; and the National Development Reform Council (NDRC) as the Executing Agency of the BRESL Project.  The 5th RPSC Meeting preceded the 2013 The RPSC Chairman, Mr. Xie Ji of NDRC; the BRESL Regional Project Director, Mr. Lu Xinming of NDRC; the UNDP Program Managers from UNDP Country Offices of the different BRESL PCs; and representatives of the six (6) BRESL National Project Directors (NPDs)  and the BRESL Regional Project Management Unit (RPMU) attended the meeting. The BRESL RPMU also invited the UNDP Malaysia which was represented by Mr. Asfaazam Kasbani, who is the Assistant Resident Representative (Environment & Energy Cluster). It was recalled that the first Stakeholders’ Meeting during the project development stage of BRESL in 2008 was held in Malaysia since this country was also interested in being a BRESL PC.  The meeting was not only updating the progress status of all member countries but also sharing lessons learned though BRESL effective south-south mode of exchange in ES&L Program development and implementation. In addition, there has agreed to develop the next phase BRESL project to promote ES&L in the region. RPMU will take a lead to develop the project concept, in consultation with the CTs and support of UNDP COs and RCU.
